Scores of indigent persons on Thursday at Ayom Okpala Field, Awka, benefited from Day 2 of the FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH put together by Engr. Emeka Igwe,* an exceptional philanthropist, who has been in the business of helping the less privilege for decade now.
The exercise witnessed massive turn out of aged men, women, youths and children, resident in Awka South 1.
It recorded an outstanding attendance, with over 400 patients accessing various services, such as; dental care, eye care and were also diagnosed and treated of various ailments, including cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes as well as malaria, osteoarthritis, pains and inflammations.
While the counseling unit and the Consulting and Drug dispensary units provided counseling and drugs to patients.
According to the sponsor, Engr Emeka Igwe, the 5 days exercise was designed to give the people of Awka South 1, a sense of belonging, particularly those who may not have money to receive adequate health care.
Engr Igwe went further to say that the gesture was aimed at building a healthy constituency and complementing efforts of the state government in the health sector.
Igwe described the experience as humbling, considering the turnout.
“If nobody is touched by what we have seen, then we’ve lost our sense of humanity”, he said.
In separate interviews, three beneficiaries, John Anakwe, Ifeoma Okafor and, Nkechi Ofordili, who were diagnosed of Malaria, Diabetes and Typhoid, respectively, thanked the benefactor for the treatments and donating of drugs to them.
More persons are expected to be reached today, as the Medical Outreach continues today at *Ndi Ichie Hall*.
