The Law Students Association of University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, LAWSA on 4th June 2018 honoured the member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Paul Nnajiofor, JP, FCAI with ‘Legislative Excellence Award’.

This was in recognition of his outstanding constituency programs which includes medical Outreach programs through the Ononenyi Healthcare Foundation, at Nara, Amagunze and Amankanu respectively.

Other life changing programs of the legislator are empowerment through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship endowment support, poverty Eradication, community Peace Advocacy etc
In his keynote address, Hon Nnajiofor noted that legislation goes beyond sitting in the legislative building/chambers or making laws.

“The work of a Legislator is not only making laws, it goes beyond that. It involves more of oversight, town hall meetings, medical Outreach programs, human empowerment, civic engagement and education, sports programs, etc” he noted.

He solicited for the support of the people and to reason with them at the state houses of assembly as they are the only legislature that do not have constituency allowance, unlike their counterparts at the federal level.

Hon Nnajiofor however thanked the governor of Enugu State, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the prudent management of state resources, the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Edward Ubosi for maintaining peace in the 6th Session of the assembly which he said is unprecedented and LAWSA South East for their recognition.

Delivering a speech on the topic, Making a Real Political Leader: The Demands, the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Edward Ubosi, said that leadership is influence and the ability to get followers.

The Speaker who was represented by Barr. Chidiobi Fabian, identified three key qualities a leader must possess as integrity, character and self discipline.

“To make real political leader, you must have discipline. Discipline ranks in the must-have category, right beside food, water and air. If you don’t have discipline you don’t have anything”, he noted.

Ubosi who also honoured by the students maintained that a leader must know God and involve Him in his programmes as all wisdom and power comes from Him.

Other awardees at the event were Hon Chuka Eneh representing Udi South constituency, Commissioner of Police Enugu State, represented by the Force PPRO Ebere Amarizu among others.
