There was wild jubilations throughout Enugu , especially Enugu West yesterday as the Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reform, Barrister Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Enugu senatorial zone.
The result which was announced by the chairman of the Five Member APC party Primaries Committee headed by Professor Moses Momoh on Friday afternoon, October 5.
Mrs Ibekaku-Nwagwu who scored 5,750 votes out of the 12,722 votes cast in the election defeated three other contestants namely; Gbazueagu Nweke Gbazueagu (GNG), Mr Osita Okechukwu, DG VON and Surveyor Eze.
While Gbazueagu and Mr Okechukwu pulled 4,015 and 2,224 votes respectively. Surveyor Eze scored about 600 votes.
Reacting to the news of her victory, Agu Anayo from Udi, who was very happy with the development congratulated Mrs Ibekaku-Nwagwu on her emergence as the party candidate.
“Congratulations great woman, may God see you through”, Agu prayed.
Engineer Nwachimereze who described Ibekaku as the ‘healing water from the sanctuary’ and a woman of inestimable value called on all the good people of Enugu West to repeat the gesture come 2019, assuring that she will never disappoint them.
Mrs Onyinye Loveth Omedi who could not hide her joy called on women and youths of Enugu West to come out en masse to vote one of their own and to also focus on personality rather than party.
“Mrs Ibekaku-Nwagwu is a great woman. I implore all the youths especially women of Enugu West to give her a chance by voting for her as our Senator.
“She has done well, she is doing well and she will do perfectly well if given the opportunity to represent us at the Red Chamber. Her records are there for everyone to see and assess”, explained Mrs Omedi.
Mr Ifeanyi Udeh, the Udi local government Youths Leader of the party promised to mobilize all the youths of the zone and Udi in particular for what he described as a ‘Devine Project’.
In her press release, Mrs Ibekaku-Nwagwu thanked all the members of APC Enugu West senatorial zone, the state EXECOs, Elders of the Party and the entire state chapter for the massive support given to her during the exercise.
She also commended the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by her fellow contestants and declared the whole exercise as victory for all.
She however called on all party man and woman to come together as one to consolidate on the victory already achieved.
“This is the time for every party man and woman to come together irrespective of our previous affiliations, to build the party and make it formidable enough to defeat our major opponents, the PDP and the country at large”, read the statement.
She also congratulated all other aspirants who emerged at various levels and charged them to realize the task ahead.
