The good people of Udeze Development Council Area in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State under the aegis of the Udeze Forum have endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for a second term in office to enable him to continue with his people-oriented leadership in the state.
FirstNews reports that the endorsement of Governor Ugwuanyi by the Udeze Forum took place at a civic reception held in honour of the Governor at Unadu Community in Udeze Council Area.
The endorsement motion was moved by the Chairman, Udeze Forum Steering Committee, Chief Ejike Amedu, and was seconded by the former Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA, Chief Christopher Omeje, with the people of Udeze supporting and approving the motion with a rising ovation.
Amedu explained that the leadership of Gov. Ugwuanyi in the past three and a half years has led to numerous infrastructural developments across the Local Government Areas of the state; quality and improved health care delivery, construction/renovation of classroom blocks in primary and secondary schools, prompt payment of salaries, including 13th month salary, among other life-touching programmes.
He said that considering the fact that the people of Udeze have not been left out in the dividends of democracy being dished out by Governor Ugwuanyi since he assumed office, they unanimously decided to endorse Governor Ugwuanyi as their candidate for the 2019 governorship elections in the state.
- Earlier, the Convener of Udeze Forum, Barr Vincent Obetta, in his keynote address, said that the event was historic being that the event is being held for the first time in the archives of ‘our people, that a sitting governor is being treated to a civic reception and endorsement in Udeze land.
Obetta said that the second reason for calling the event historic was that it coincided exactly with fifteen years’ anniversary of the creation of Udeze Development Council Area out of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, with four communities joined together to give birth to Udeze Development Area.
The convener said, “In retrospect, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area was originally made up of nine communities namely Alor – Agu, Unadu, Itchi, Ibagwa, Iheakpu, Uhunowerre, Ovoko, Iheaka and Nkalagu Obukpa. Out of the nine original communities, Udeze had four communities.
“As you may be aware, today under the current Development Centre system, Igbo Eze South West is made up of nine autonomous communities. While Ibagwa, Ishiegu-Ibagwa and Nkalagu Obukpa constitute the South Central Development Centre, Alor-Agu, Itchi – Egu, Itchi- Uwani, Itchi, Ohom and Obaka Unadu currently make up Udeze Development Centre.
“The entire people of Udeze appreciate your love for us by appointing some of our sons and daughters in your administration. However, as Oliver Twist, we shall make further requests for your intervention in some of the critical areas that require urgent attention in Udeze Development Centre.
“We humbly request the completion of the second phase of the ongoing construction of Ngwo Adada/Itchi, Unadu and Alor-Agu road.
“In Udeze, only few secondary schools have functional science laboratories; government should assist us in providing the infrastructure. The state of primary school in Udeze also requires urgent intervention. Some of these schools have issues of shortage of classroom teachers. Out of ninety streams/classes in Udeze Development Centre Education Authority Schools, only sixty-one classes have teachers while thirty-one classes have no teachers guiding the pupils, yet more teachers will be retiring in January 2019.
“Your Excellency, Sir, may I, at this juncture, pay tribute to your wisdom of adopting the principle of ‘the greatest happiness of the greatest number’– (Ivori voyi Nwanegu…….) to your style of governance. This visionary recognition of the immediate needs of ndi Enugu has magically reduced tension and engendered peace and security in the state.”
Governor Ugwuanyi promised to ensure speedy completion of Ngwo Adada/Itchi, Unadu and Alor-Agu road, adding, “I have approved the sum of twenty million naira only (N20, 000.000.00) for the renovation and procurement of hospital equipment at General Hospital Itchi.
“The Chairman of the council area, Dr. Fidelis Odo, should write me immediately for the release of the money to commence work in the hospital as soon as possible because it has to do with human lives.
“In the area of education, I will direct the appropriate authorities to address your demands as soon as possible considering that our government places high importance to issues that have to do with education which is the bedrock of every growth in society.”
The governor commended the people of Udeze Development Area for the endorsement of his candidature in the forthcoming 2019 governorship elections in the state and their unflinching support towards his administration, adding that he will continue to ensure that the cries of marginalization of the people of Udeze in the scheme of things become a thing of the past.
FirstNews reports that the governor commissioned the first phase of Ngwo Adada/Itchi-Unadu-Alor-Agu road and was thereafter presented with Offor by the Eze of Itchi n’ Amudu Kingdom, Eze Sebastian Eze, who assured him that Itchi community and Udeze at large will vote and support his re-election bid to enable him to continue with his good work in the state.
