WThe Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) Enugu State Chapter, has threatened to mobilize civil society groups in the state and other institutions against the All Progressives Congress in the state if anything happens to the votes of the good people of Enugu state in the March 9 Governorship/House of Assembly elections.
In a press statement signed by the Chairman of CUPP Enugu state chapter, Hon. Festus Ogbonna, on Thursday in Enugu, the group said that APC was cooking up strategies it will use to rig elections like they did in the presidential election since they did not participate in campaigns or marketing of their candidates and the programmes they will offer to Ndi-Enugu if given the opportunity.
He said that while other political parties were busy carrying out their campaigns across the state, the APC in Enugu state were sleeping and when they woke up from their slumber, they decided to heap the blame of their woes on Enugu Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, by calling for his removal and postponement of election in Enugu.
“Recall what happened during the postponed presidential/national assembly elections. APC passed vote of no confidence on INEC all in a bid to deceive Nigerians from knowing what they have in plan. The APC wants to play the same gimmicks in Enugu Governorship election but they will fail woefully because they are not on ground.
“We are not only passing vote of confidence on Enugu REC, Dr Ononamadu, but we will stand by him to ensure that he carries out his duties effectively and diligently because the allegations against him by the APC is baseless and unfounded.
“We cannot support the call for the removal of Enugu REC because he has not done anything contrary to the constitution of Nigeria that demands for his removed. The election must go on as scheduled.” The Chairman added.
He said that Enugu state has been peaceful since Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi assumed leadership but the APC and her supporters in the wake of the general elections have been creating unnecessary tensions in the state to portray the state in bad light.
The CUPP Chairman said that over seventy political parties in the state have passed vote of confidence on Ugwuanyi for his people oriented leadership adding that they are mobilizing heavily for his victory at the Saturday election.
“Anything that is in the hands of God cannot be taken away by the enemy. The saying that one good term deserves another is why we dropped our ambitions of contesting against Gov Ugwuanyi to enable continue his good works.” He added. fffffffffffff
