Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chief Nnia Nwodo, Bishop Chukwuma and Mrs Josephine Ugwu are among notable Nigerians slated to be honoured during the forthcoming FirstNews Magazine Excellence Awards and Book Presentation scheduled to hold on 12th December, 2019, at Ingrace Events Centre, Rangers Avenue, Enugu.
A statement from the chairman of the organising committee, Dr. Desna Aja, said the aim of the event was to honour people and bodies that have impacted positively towards bettering the lots of the people.
“Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State will bag FirstNews Man of the Millennium award. Mrs Josephine Ugwu of the Federal Airports Authority will be honoured for her integrity; Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma has been the voice of the voiceless, and Chief Nnia Nwodo will be honoured with the Icon of Igbo Emancipation. There are many categories. The event will also feature presentations of ‘Ikemefuna’ and ‘The Maverick’, novels written by Chinedu Aroh. They are respectively dedicated to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Hon. Chinedu Onu for their contributions towards making our society better.
“The magazine has continued to fulfill its mandate of excellence by reporting the facts beyond the news. The Magazine has not engaged in sensationalism. It lets us know what is happening and its impact on the society and not just the story. The Magazine for the past seven years has equally maintained its quality and consistency in making people know what is happening around them,” He said.
Dr Ajah said that Ugwuanyi has completely demystified governance and uplifted the living standard of the masses through good governance and provision of basic infrastructure, such as good roads, basic health facilities, potable water and most importantly institution of political harmony that has made the state a destination for investors and businessmen.

According to him, “The FirestNews Magazine Inaugural Award Ceremony is to recognize excellence. The Magazine came into existence in the year 2012 with the aim of being the first to reporting the news on the foundations of factuality and encouragement of qualitative services carried out by humanity in our environment and beyond.
“FirstNews will henceforth be organising yearly lectures to discuss national issues.”
