Abuja, Oct. 1, 2024 (NAN) A concerned citizen has called on the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike to mobilise the fleet of buses of the Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) to assist in the transportation of FCT residents.
Godwin Bamigboye, a former Public Relations Manager of the Transport Agency, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Bamigboye called on Wike to as a matter of great priority and as an independence package to Nigerians, facilitate the resumption of full operations of AUMTCO buses in the nooks and crannies of the FCT.
He said this action would serve as an immediate palliative response to residents to cushion the effects of the current high cost of living.
“I am concerned because of the very high cost of transportation due to the removal of subsidy on petroleum.
“The economic impact on families is increasingly unbearable to the extent that transport costs alone is higher than take home pay of most workers.
“Residents have been exposed to the risks of patronising trucks and pick up vans to either get to work and back home after work.
“The FCT Minister should as a matter urgency or priority, mobilise the entire fleet of buses of AUMTCO, so as to cushion the effects of the current economic hardships in Nigeria.
“This suggestion, if taken and implemented by the FCT Minister will indeed serve as Nigeria’s Independence Day package for residents of the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.
He commended the FCT Minister for his outstanding performance within a short space of time and urged him to continue with his commendable infrastructure development efforts.
He also called on other leaders to borrow a leaf from Wike and emulate his development strategies.(NAN)
