CRBDA flags off Ogoja dry season farming
The Managing Director of Cross River Basin Development Authority Engr Bassey Nkposong had said its dry season farming program is designed to guarantee an all year round engagement of farmers in the catchment.
He said this on Wednesday at Ogoja, Cross River State while flagging off the 2021 dry season farming calendar.
“Apart from ensuring high yield of grains, dry season farming makes weed control less tedious while at the same time reducing disease and pest attack on the crops, ” he said.
He said the Authority was interested in ensuring that farmers from the catchment realize their full economic potentials.
“This is because the farmers per –capital income is bound to increase as a result of high demands for their product, ” he said.
Speaking, the Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Area Mr Emmanuel ishabor lauded the Authority for initiating the dry season farming project.
He added that, as the food basket of the state, farmers in the local Government have been given another life line with the introduction of the dry season farming.
The Chairman thanked the management of CRBDA for selecting Ogoja as a demonstrative hub for the program, adding that, it would change the fortunes of the farmers in the area.
He call on the Authority to setup a farm committee that would interface with the farmers with a view to updating the Authority with the challenges and successes of the program.
A farmer, Mr Godshield Kanjal described the dry season farming project as a new beginning in the area.
