Abuja, April 7, 2025 (NAN) Clement Chinaka has emerged the overall winner of the 2025 IBB Lady Captain’s Cup in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament which teed-off on Wednesday ended on Sunday night at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Chinaka, who played off handicap 16, returned a gross score of 85 and 69 net and beat his closest challenger, A. Chigbo on countback to emerge the overall winner of the tourney.
An elated Chinaka said winning the tournament’s overall prize was a thing of joy, adding that the week-long tournament was one-of-a kind; a testament to the attributes of the outgoing lady captain.
“I feel very great that I was able to achieve this and win this very well organised tournament, put together by our amiable lady captain and her team; the first-of-its-kind in this club is amazing!
“The atmosphere was very conducive, even though I didn’t play too well at the front nine, but at the back nine, I decided to up my game.
“It is indeed a thing of joy for me and my teeming supporters that I have won this tournament, and I am sure everyone is happy,” he said.
Chigbo, who also played off handicap 16, with 85 gross and 69 net finished as runner-up net in the men’s handicap/index (0.5 – 15.7) category.
While S.M. Bello, playing off handicap 11 with 81 gross and 70 net settled for the second runner-up position in the category.
In the ladies handicap/index (0.5 – 15.7) category, S. Choi, playing off handicap 17 with 90 gross and 73 net, emerged as the best net.
While O. Abangwu and H. Adebayo took home the runner-up and second runner-up prizes, respectively.
The men’s best gross prize went to S.O. Sanya, who played off handicap 8 and returned 79 gross, while T. Danbala and B. Ashebu finished as runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
Grace Agbo, playing off handicap 6, returned a gross score of 82 gross to emerge as best gross in the ladies’ category.
Faridah Wada and M. Atta-Bala settled for the runner-up and second runner-up positions, respectively.
C. Adejoh won the ladies’ veteran prize after playing off handicap 30 and returning 102 gross and 72 net.
B. Okoko, playing off handicap 20, with 87 gross and 67 net, smiled home with the men’s veteran prize.
The Super Veteran prize went to E. Emuren, after she played off handicap 50 with 121 gross and 71 net.
P. Igho, playing off handicap 36 with 108 gross and 72 net, won the men’s Super-Veteran prize.
In the Sponsors category, E A. Igbukwu, playing off handicap 26, returned a gross score of 98 and 68 net to emerge winner.
Ben Okoyen and Jimmy Ahmed finished as runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
A. Okpara finished as best net in the ladies’ caddies category after returning 118 gross, while Aliyu Musa won the prize in the men’s category after he returned 75 gross.
The pair of M. Richard-Obioha and N.W. Abubakar emerged as the best net winner of the doubles matchplay category, while the duo of J. Ahmed and U. Wada settled for the runner-up net position(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)VO/JPE======
