The Chairman of Igbo Eze South Local Government Area, UgoFerdinand Ukwueze, has promised to create employment opportunities for people with disabilities in his administration of the council area.
Ukwueze gave this hints when the association of people with disabilities (PWD) from Igbo Eze South Local Government Area paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He promised to run an all inclusive administration with equal opportunity to all, stating that Governor Peter Mbah led administration idea of Smart and Green School initiative will accommodate both the able and disabled persons.
He said, “From today I choose to identify with you and continue to thank God for the privilege of being of service to our special citizens. From this position of gratitude, I identify myself starting from today, as a member of the organization.
“We will continue to grow in love and unity. We identify you as being challenged because of your physical and mental disabilities and will turn this disability for our good to the best of our abilities”.
He said that in line with his ‘progress agenda’ mantra, he will not leave anyone behind in administering the best of service to the good people of Igbo-Eze South.
Ukwueze who is also the Vice Chairman of ALGON in Enugu state, said that in no distant time, his administration will unveil a committee saddled with the responsibility of looking into empowerment, adding, “I assure you that both the youths, women and people with disabilities will benefit from the programme,”.
Earlier, the President, People with Disabilities (PWD) Igbo Eze South Chapter, Mr Christian Ikechukwu, on behalf of his colleagues thanked God for the successful election of UgoFerdinand Ukwueze.
He pleaded for assistance from both the state government and the Igbo Eze Council administration for his colleagues, lamenting the current harsh economic situation in the country as biting so hard on them.
His words, “As people with disabilities, survival has posed a problem for us especially with the economic problems in our country, Nigeria.
“On this note, we plead for assistance from the government. We do not encourage our members to stay jobless or beg on the streets but rather find something to do.
“We seek inclusion and attention, especially economic support from Enugu state government. Some of our members are skilled and educated and are willing to work if given the opportunity to do so”.
When you talk about innovation,strong will and leadership with fairness. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze must be mentioned. Igbo Eze South is just lucky to have him.
