The Catholic community of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area gathered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ibagwa-Aka, on Thursday, 20th March 2025, for the 2025 Diocesan Cathedraticum, a significant annual event in the Roman Catholic Church.
The event was attended by the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State, Barr. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, alongside clergy, religious leaders, parishioners from various parishes within the deanery, and other Christian faithful.
The ceremony was presided over by His Lordship, Most Rev. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, who led the Eucharistic celebration. The Cathedraticum, a traditional occasion where parishes reaffirm their unity with the bishop through communal offerings in support of the diocese, saw active participation from various parishes across the zone.
In his homily, Bishop Onah emphasized the importance of unity, charity and steadfast faith in the life of the Church. He called on the faithful to uphold their Christian responsibilities and expressed gratitude for the support extended to the diocese by both the laity and public officials.
The event featured solemn liturgical music, an offertory procession, and tributes in recognition of the bishop’s spiritual leadership. The celebration concluded with prayers for peace, unity and progress in Igbo-Eze South and the wider Nsukka Diocese.
